Expanding beyond its roots, Healthy Spot wanted to communicate its unique position—as healthy pet experts—as it introduced itself to new communities. Shook Kelley studied the organization and proposed a new store design that better aligned with the brand's mission, purpose and goals.

Born out of a frustration with pet food recalls, Healthy Spot’s founders set out to find the “right answers” to help pets live full, long, energetic lives. They created a new kind of pet store that cared about high quality, ethical, and conscious solutions for your pet’s wellness. The stores include daycare services for socialization, grooming services for comfort and care, nutrition consulting and food products for health, and a variety of toys and accessories for living a pet’s best life. 

The stores were minimalist, modern, and bright—they felt distinctively different and elevated from your average pet store. However, the store environment was not helping them tell the deeper brand story of Healthy Spot’s beliefs and cause around pet health and wellness. Shook Kelley saw opportunities to share the company’s values more overtly throughout the experience.

The brand’s values around quality, ethics and conscientious curation are put on full display as the visual headline of the store.

The new store design introduced differentiated zones with more guidance in different facets of a pet’s lifestyle as a family member—from exercise to treats, healthy eating to play, training to dog style, and hygiene to style that fits with the owner. Whether you’re looking for strong chew toys for a puppy or soft toys for a senior pup, the new store provides curation and guidance by category, with insight into pet lives through useful tips and knowledge. A larger color palette is introduced to complement the existing, while expanding each zone into a color representing different aspects of a great pet life. The brand’s values around quality, ethics and conscientious curation are put on full display as the visual headline of the store. The grooming spa is made more visible to showcase the elevated care and talent of Healthy Spot’s award-winning groomers. And the daycare has been rebranded into a puppy playground to encourage social engagement and exercise. The new store better conveys Healthy Spot’s pet wellness expertise and position.

Now open in Northern California and with a larger footprint in its Southern California home base, Healthy Spot’s tribe is growing, bringing together pet owners who specifically desire and seek out healthier pet lifestyles. The new stores encourage more self-exploration and now provides knowledge and expertise beyond just the sales associates. The brand continues to grow quickly, convening new communities across California.
