Midway

Save

Master Planning, Conceptual Design, Rezoning and Public Engagement services for a 55-acre mixed-use development on the site of Midway Marina on Lake Norman in Catawba County. The goal is to create a community unlike anything on Lake Norman, which for the most part, is virtually private along the waters edge.

Shook Kelley, working with Scott Development Group, assisted with the rezoning of the property from medium-density residential and rural commercial to planned development-conditional, with the goal of creating a master planned harbor community along NC Hwy 150 in Terrell, NC. The new Midway will establish a destination for boaters and non-boaters alike, with a boardwalk, boat slips, restaurants, retail and pocket parks. The mixed-use development will feature several blocks of ground-floor retail and restaurant space with second-floor residential units. Other residential features include 640 age-targeted (55 and up) townhomes and single-family homes. Design elements for Midway feature restrictions on the types of materials for the building facades. Where a building borders Hwy 150, at least 15% of the facades will be windows and doors. A key feature is the gateway aspect, presenting a unified harbor community vista as drivers enter Catawba County over the Hwy 150 bridge.
