Fancy Pants & Tootsies Too

Save

The client initially had one primary objective: to house two separate, yet related children’s boutique retailers: Fancy Pants (children’s clothing) and Tootsies Too (children’s shoes.) Shook Kelley was hired to created a single sophisticated, yet comfortable environment for two separate children’s boutique retailers. Each brand identity needed strong presence, yet cohesive in one narrow tenant space, while also making the entire new store feel spacious and welcoming.

Shook Kelley developed a floor plan where the clothing runs along the right side while the shoes occupy part of the left. A central spine of millwork divides the two while providing opportunities for cross circulation. With the clothes across the front of the store, a wide entry into the shoe area and a bold graphic were needed to provide a presence for the shoes at the front as well. Painted white millwork and similar details throughout create the unified and high-end feel the owners wanted. Finger-like fixtures extend into the sales floor creating room-like areas along the right with merchandising opportunities on top. Similar fixtures were repeated in the center to break up the space without obstructing views to the back. The store’s signature custom blue color was painted on the wall of the shoe stock room to draw customers in and is repeated in the graphics, packaging, children’s’ play area furniture and dressing room curtains. Hardwood floors in the clothing area provide luxury in space while making it easy to maneuver a stroller. Carpet was selected for comfort and to deaden sound in the shoe area. A dimmable track and down lights provide general illumination and highlight merchandise, while Italian crystal chandeliers flank the entry to add sparkle. Classic columns, crown molding and graceful arches in the wall fixtures exude a high-end retail experience. A coffered ceiling centered on the entrance draws the customer’s eye into the store and adds a visual connection to all the retail areas. White millwork is used throughout and warm stained wood designates certain areas. All open fixtures are equipped with hanging rods and adjustable shelving, allowing flexibility for the owners.

The owners also wanted to provide customers with a children’s play area. A shared space was centrally located, set back from the entrance for safety with low walls allowing for visibility. Access is controlled through a childproof locked gate and details and colors were used that feel integral to the store.

The result is a sophisticated, yet comfortable environment for patrons, young and old.
