Infinity Broadcasting: CBS Office Interiors

Save

The offices of Infinity Broadcasting is the result of a partnership between Infinity and Shook Kelley to create a headquarters that suits the unique characteristics of Infinity’s on-air personalities.

Infinity serves as the anchor tenant of the 92,000sf building, occupying the entire third floor. About 200 employees work there amongst five Infinity radio stations.

Blending the energy and competitiveness of different cultures within one physical environment

As it’s first radio station project, Shook Kelley approached the project as if it were being designed for three separate clients. Between the five radio stations exist three very different corporate cultures reflective of the stations’ distinct demographics. The urban group (WPEG, WBAV and WGIV) targets African American listeners. For their space, Shook Kelley took cues from multicultural icons in the music and entertainment industries. WFNZ is a sports station with a predominantly male audience, so the look changed to for a futuristic, high-tech form. WSOC’s space reflects the country and Nascar-based audience which that station serves.

The design takes a retail and hospitality approach to the project by designing a vibrant, exciting place to work. Whereas office markets typically suffer from predictability, the CBS offices were designed to be unlike any other office interior in Charlotte. “We were lucky to have a client that allows us to take such an unorthodox approach. The walls are at odd angles, the ceiling heights vary and the employee break room resembles a coffeehouse. We wanted to capture the energy and competitiveness of the stations in the physical environment. Instead of creating turf, we sought synergy,” quotes Kevin Kelley, Principal-in-Charge.
