Chiron America: North American Headquarters

Save

Chiron America, a German-based company, is a manufacturer and distributor of computerized machines used in the manufacture of precision mass-produced parts for markets in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

They offer a wide variety of machine types and sizes that service many industries including automotive, aerospace and medical. Chiron is considered the global leader in the industry, and is distinguished not only for the precision of the component parts, but also for the speed by which they are rendered. The company’s moniker,” Seconds Ahead,” characterizes the company’s position in this highly competitive marketplace. Unlike many of its competitors, they deliver both process and product to their customer base, routinely working in a partnership position with the likes of Daimler/ Chrysler, Ford and GM to establish how parts are to be created.

A “house for the machines that make machines.”

When Chiron turned to Shook Kelley to design it’s new North American corporate headquarters, the challenge was to combine industrial, office, showroom and museum space in a 53,487 square foot building reflective of the company’s European heritage. The building was designed as a vehicle for showcasing to prospective customers and reinforcing to existing ones their historic leadership position in the machine tool field.

The design concept is based upon a “house for the machines that make machines.” The building uses contrasting materials to show the juxtaposition of its distinctly different functions.

The award-winning result is a building flow that serves as a tool to enhance sales, building a progression from the entryway to the boardroom that tells the Chiron story and gives visitors a glimpse into its manufacturing processes.
