Birkdale Village
Representing genuine expressions of town building and urban living, Huntersville, NC’s Birkdale Village is an entertaining place, bringing together a variety of uses in a main street development. In partnership with The Crosland Group and Pappas Properties, we developed a concept vision and master plan, as well as providing architectural and interior design services for this award-winning project.

The project was loosely patterned after New England seacoast towns.
The 52-acre, traditionally-planned community represents the first project of its kind to be built in North Carolina in which multiple housing choices are coupled with even more varied lifestyle opportunities for recreation, entertainment, shopping, leisure, dining and neighborhood services. This mix of choice, opportunity and sense of place created by the scale of the buildings, the streetscapes, public greens and merchandised storefronts result in a pedestrian-oriented, urban environment that is both a highly-visited regional destination and a home for hundreds of people. Patterned loosely after New England seacoast towns like Nantucket and Cape Cod, the community aptly lies nearby one of North Carolina's largest inland lakes.
The project has won numerous awards, including a 2003 Pillars of the Industry Award, a 2003 Award of Excellence from the Urban Land Institute and First Place in the Best Lifestyle Shopping Center category in the Chain Store Age 2004 Retail Stores of the Year competition.
