Buehler’s Fresh Foods: Existing Store Renovation
In addition to a new store prototype design, Shook Kelley also developed a renovation design program to update previously existing Buehler's stores. Shown here is the Delaware store location with the new design program fully implemented. In keeping with the overall Main Street U.S.A. concept, the community room features classic movie theater-style marquee signage on a new curved soffit.
The existing dropped ceiling was removed in the Market Hall area, and the exposed structure was painted dark to create a more open and dynamic shopping experience. New lighting, integrated with distinctive suspended trellises, serves to better define product and key merchandising zones within the Market Hall.
The entrance area to the Main Street Grill, as seen from inside the grocery store. The counter area at left is a classic ice cream parlour, and also serves as the order zone for to-go items. Full-service customers are greeted by a hostess prior to being seated.
Materials, colors and lighting were selected to create a comfortable, casual gathering place for the local community. The photographic groupings on the walls, images of historic downtown Delaware, were commissioned by the design team from a local area photographer.
The Oven Works is a limited-service food concept developed exclusively for Buehler's. The design concept takes its cues from the industrial-era steel mills and factories which are found throughout this region.
The entrance tower at the new Ace Hardware store was designed to function as a beacon visible from the surrounding roads.
