Vaughn’s – New Orleans
On Dauphine Street deep in the Bywater neighborhood of the city, Vaughn’s is “the real New Orleans experience.” Kermit Ruffin’s trumpet, Dixie beer and piles of BBQ and red beans-n-rice cooking on a table in the middle of the dance floor, make this a must do for anyone headed down. This is not a stop in the tourist’s handbooks, it is a locals and in-the-know traveler’s spot only. Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler.

Jacque-Imos
In a city full of unique restaurants, there’s nothing like Jacques-Imo’s. Located in the Riverbend section of uptown, Jacques-Imos is the definition of Creole-Soul cuisine. Shrimp and Alligator Sausage Cheesecake, the Blackened Redfish, or Duck and Sausage Gumbo are a few of the dishes that make locals often wait two hours to get seated. Guests walk through the kitchen to get to the dining room, and a pickup truck parked in front of the restaurant and painted like the dining room, serve as advertising and impromptu seating, with guests eating at the table in the back of the truck.
