This nondescript, no frills hideaway is a major find for Vietnamese food devotees and might possibly be the best Vietnamese restaurant we’ve come across anywhere. The menu is virtually infinite, but the knowledgeable, helpful and honest staff will always steer you to the best items of the day. The always consistent Sweet Potato Hot Pot is a must – served with shrimp and a red curry, lemongrass flavored broth. Also try the potent and flavorful cold pressed Vietnamese coffee. You will not be disappointed.
Taqueria La Unica
A virtually unnoticeable small building in east Charlotte has the distinction of serving the city’s best and most traditional Baja Mexican tacos and cuisine. The Carne Asada, Al Pastor and Pescado Tacos at Taqueria La Unica rely on simple preparation and presentation, and the flavors rival anything we’ve had outside of Southern California. Try 2 Al Pastor tacos, the crab soup with warm corn tortillas and a Jarritos to wash it down – there is nothing better. Just ask the local Latino community who pack this place everyday for lunch and dinner. And... their soccer team is fun to watch too.
